UHRIG Civil Engineering: Dynamic pipe jacking

Pipe jacking with UHRIG

Wherever the ground is not suitable for excavation or it would not make economic sense, pipe jacking is an excellent solution.

In this standard method, a pipe is driven horizontally into the ground. As a specialized company, UHRIG also offers controlled dynamic jacking in addition to conventional pipe jacking.

Pipe jacking as an alternative

There are two possible methods for laying pipes and cables. Either a trench is excavated and the pipe is laid in the open. Or the pipe is driven underground without a trench and laid using minimally invasive methods.

In certain cases, pipe jacking is not only the more economical, but even the only possible option, for example under railroad lines, watercourses or at great depths. Pipe jacking is therefore also a standard method in sewer construction. The pipes are pressed, shot or rammed horizontally through the ground from an excavation pit and then subsequently emptied.

Microtunneling

The ground conditions as well as the pipe diameter, length and accuracy of the borehole determine the choice of jacking system and equipment.

Conventional pipe jacking is uncontrolled, i.e. the machine is precisely aligned and the actual jacking then takes place without further control.

Alternatively, we also offer controlled dynamic jacking. In this case, a casing pipe is first driven through the ground from the starting pit and only removed when it is in its final position.

Advantages

The great advantage of dynamic jacking is that it can also be carried out with very small overlaps and no subsidence occurs. A service pipe is then inserted into the casing pipe and the annular gap is insulated.

We normally carry out dynamic jacking for pipe sections up to 100 m in length and up to nominal diameters of DN 3200. Please contact us for further information or advice!

Our experience

For over 60 years, we have specialized in civil engineering in urban areas and under difficult conditions. During this time, we have not only implemented hundreds of construction projects, but have also developed technologies and processes that set us apart from the competition.
